This body of work has emerged from the observation of the quality and character of light, translated into colour photography in the context of the still life genre. Reworking one of the great themes, Shelley creates compositions in the style of the old masters, using modern technology. The viewer is faced with familiar objects, yet the compositions hold visual surprises. The play with illusionary elements like unconventional lighting, forced perspective and juxtaposed objects characterises the work. This results in everyday objects taking on an intriguing and surreal ambience.
